DHOW SAILING

Emirates Heritage Club

A fundamental aim of the Emirates Sailing School and the Emirates Heritage Club is to educate the new generations in their heritage and history. Unfortunately progress can sometimes ignore this, and the old ways can very easily be forgotten and left behind. This is why Emirates Sailing School provides courses in Traditional Dhow Sailing.

Sailing is by no means a new sport, generations before us have set off into the horizon with wind I their sails. The main reason for these voyages was to transport goods for trading. The coast of the UAE, especially Dubai, developed due to such trading and dhows have continued to make the crossing between the gulf and India for decades. However the traditional sailing dhow is still a very popular with the natioals and dhow racing has become a very competitive sport. One can often see the horizon lined with their huge sails.
ESS has the full range of craft from the Bhanush to the 60ft racing boat, and we aim to enter an ESS team into future Events.

So if you want to get back to your roots, but are still interested in doing a competitive sport; traditional dhow sailing could be the answer. Its an amazing thrill ride and a real challenge to work together as a team.
